CAROSELLO BIANCO LECCESE 2019

È da un pezzo che manco dal mio blog. Ciò non vuol dire che i caroselli abbiano deluso. Anzi, è esattamente il contrario. Un esempio è stato il Carosello Bianco Leccese, una di quelle varietà che raramente delude. Ha avuto un andamento sorprendente. Ha prodotto otto frutti dal 20 luglio al 10 agosto:

(1) 20 luglio - 1° frutto

(2) 23 luglio - 2° frutto

(3) 28 luglio - 3° frutto

(4) 30 luglio - 4° frutto

(5) 1 agosto - 5° frutto

(6) 5 agosto - 6° frutto

(7) 8 agosto - 7° frutto

(8) 10 agosto - 8° frutto

A questo punto l'oidio ha cominciato a rovinare progressivamente le foglie e sembrava che la pianta fosse giunta al capolinea. Invece, dopo due settimane, la pianta ha sviluppato nuovi rami laterali:

(9) 25 agosto - nuovo ramo laterale 1

(10) Nuovo ramo laterale 2

(11) Nuovo ramo laterale 3

Questi rami laterali hanno prodotto altri otto caroselli dal 29 agosto al 20 settembre:

(12) 29 agosto - 9° frutto

(13) 1 settembre - 10° frutto

(14) 3 settembre - 11° frutto

(15) 3 settembre - 12° frutto 

(16) 11° e 12° frutto insieme

A questo punto la pianta era esausta; gli ultimi quattro frutti sono venuti fuori più piccoli, ma ancora più gustosi:

(17) 14 settembre -13° frutto

(18) 14 settembre - 14° frutto

(19) 20 settembre - 15° frutto

(20) 20 settembre - 16° frutto

Gli ultimi due caroselli raccolti dalla stessa pianta, lo stesso giorno:

(21) Polimorfismo accentuato

Frutti raccolti: 16 (da una singola pianta)

Peso complessivo: 3,826 kg

Peso medio per frutto: 239,13 grammi

CAROSELLO LECCESE WHITE

I have been away from my blog for a while. This doesn't mean caroselli disappointed my expectations. In fact, It's quite the opposite. An exemple was the Carosello Leccese White, one of those varieties which seldom disappoints. It had an astonishing performance because it yielded sixteen fruits split into two different periods: eight from the 20th of July to the 10 th of August (1 to 8).

After the first period, the powdery mildew started to ruin gradually the leaves and the vine seemed to have reached the end of its tether. Instead, after two weeks, new side branches thrived on the vine (9 to 11). These side branches yielded further eight fruits from the 29th of August to the 20th of September (12 to 20).

At the end of the second period the vine was exhausted; the last four caroselli were smaller, but still tastier. The last two harvested show how different caroselli can be on the same vine (21).

Fruits harvested: 16 (from a single vine)

Total weight: 3,826 kg

Average weight per fruit: 239,13 grams

CAROSELLI - aggiornamento

Dividere il periodo di semina dei caroselli in tre fasi distinte è stata una buona idea:

(1) Raccolto degli ultimi due giorni 

Nella foto 1 ci sono un Manduria, un Cianciuffo, un Bianco Leccese, due Tondi Baresi e il solito incrocio sconosciuto. Questi caroselli appartengono a piante di tutti e tre i periodi di semina.
A ulteriore dimostrazione del polimorfismo dei caroselli anche sulla medesima pianta, il Cianciuffo, detto anche Carosello Tondo di Fasano, non è da meno:

Non mi sembra proprio tondo e nemmeno liscio. Sulla stessa pianta si sta sviluppando un secondo meloncino che sembra essere più fedele al suo nome:

CAROSELLI - update

Splitting the caroselli sowing period into three different stages was a good idea. On picture 1 are shown one Manduria, one Cianciuffo, one White Leccese, two Round Baresi and the usual unknown cross. These caroselli were harvested from vines belonging to all three sowing periods.

As a clear proof  of caroselli's polymorphism also on the same vine, the Cianciuffo, also known as Carosello Round Fasano, doesn't want to be outdone by other caroselli varieties. It is neither round nor smooth (2 and 3). On the same vine another small melon is thriving: it seems to be more faithful to its name (4).

CAROSELLI DI SECONDA SEMINA - aggiornamento

L'idea di seminare i caroselli in tre periodi distinti sembra funzionare:

(1) Cianciuffo, Carosello di Manduria e Carosello Bianco Leccese  

Al momento solo il Carosello Bianco Leccese presenta frutti ben sviluppati tra i caroselli seminati nel secondo periodo:

SECOND SOWING CAROSELLI - update

My idea to sow caroselli during three different periods seems to work (1). At the moment only the Carosello Leccese White shows well-grown fruits among the caroselli sown in the second period (2 and 3).

UNA PICCOLA MELANZANA SPECIALE

È la Melanzana Perlina, frutto di incroci naturali:

(1) Melanzana Perlina

Ha portamento medio e struttura vigorosa con foglie robuste, molto resistenti al sole diretto.

I fiori bellissimi, come in tutte le varietà di melanzana:

Le mie due piante hanno solo un frutto ben sviluppato al momento, lungo 7 cm. Sarà maturo quando raggiungerà 10-15 cm:

A SMALL SPECIAL EGGPLANT

It's Perlina Eggplant, result of natural crosses. It's a medium-growth variety with a vigorous structure. Its leaves are tough and show a good resistance to direct sun. 

As in all eggplant strains, its flowers are very beautiful (pic 3).

My two plants have just one well-grown fruit at the moment, 7 cm long. It will be ripe when it reaches 10-15 cm.

UN CAROSELLO TENACE

Questa pianta carosello aveva la sorte segnata. Le foglie stavano paurosamente ingiallendo e di frutti manco l'ombra. Sono bastate una dose di solfato di ferro e una di pollina e si è ripresa in poco tempo. Ora le foglie sono di nuovo di un bel verde vivace...

... e in più, fatto non trascurabile, si è pure messo a fruttificare:

Tra l'altro, seminando questa varietà, non sapevo cosa sarebbe venuto fuori. Alla fine si è rilevata essere una pianta di Carosello Melone Tarantino che ho già coltivato nel 2016. Qui con un peponide di Carosello Barese:

A TOUGH CAROSELLO

The doom of the carosello vine on picture 1 was sealed. Its leaves were awfully  going yellow and there were no trace of fruits. Thanks to a dose of  ferrous sulphate and a one of chicken droppings, the vine recovered in a short time. Now its leaves are again lively green.

It isn't negligible that it has started bearing fruit (2 and 4). Moreover, when I sowed this variety, I didn't know what would come out. At the end it turned out to be a Carosello Melone Tarantino I  have already grown in 2016.
