Se i semi del Carosello Spuredda Tarantino hanno generato un Carosello Tondo Massafrese, che cosa verrà fuori dai semi di quest'ultimo? Per saperlo, dovrò telefonare a questa benedetta azienda sementiera. Una spiegazione plausibile per questa continua confusione di semi è che un colpo di vento abbia fatto volare i semi mentre li preparavano e poi li abbiano messi a "capocchia" nei sacchetti. È un'ipotesi azzardata?

This is the umpteenth instalment of the soap opera «This blog vs. seeds companies». I wanted to cultivate the carosello spotlighted on pic 1 I ate during my holidays in Puglia last year, but those seeds bore a Carosello Massafrese Round (pic 3) (read here), present also in the catalogue of the same seeds company.
If a Carosello Massafrese Round thrived from Carosello Spuredda Tarantino seeds, what will come out from the Massafrese Round seeds? To know that, I'll have to phone this blessed seeds company.
A plausible explanation for this endless mess is that a strong wind blew the seeds away while preparing them. Then they put them in packets at ramdom. Is it a far-fetched hypothesis?
Ti mostrerò in seguito che cosa è venuto fuori dalle buste di carota di Polignano vendute da sementiera...

Le sorprese a volte sono belle sorprese, a volte brutte. In questo caso non è stata una tragedia, ma se una sementiera vende due varietà di Carosello, che stia attenta a imbustare le due varietà nelle rispettive buste. Mi sembra il minimo!
RispondiEliminaAngelo forse ricorderà che io, da un notissimo e strablasonato venditore, acquistai dei semi di melone da serbo. Un profumo fantastico! Fu un sacrificio non assaggiarli. Peccato che non fossero da serbo e che ben presto marcirono.

EliminaBecause I have been so busy growing out the Carosello Polisello and the Mezzo Lungo Massafra – which turned out to be a regular Carosello Massafra – I have not gotten to growing out the Spuredda Tarantino yet. I will be sure to grow this out by the spring, along with some other Carosello varieties – in an effort to find a consistent variety to start for this next summer. I will probably be growing the Tondo Barese this fall – as my seed stock for this variety is extremely low and the 1 Kg of seed I purchased from a company in Italy exhibited very poor germination.

Another company who does not work seriously. Carefully self-produced seeds are often better than those placed in a sealed envelope with a beautiful photo from a company without respect for their own work nor for their customers.
