LA SORPRESA CHE NON TI ASPETTI

Vi è mai capitato che a volte la pianta che dà più soddisfazione è quella su cui meno facevate affidamento? A me sta succedendo con un carosello tra i meno conosciuti: il Carosello Polisello. Proviene dalla parte settentrionale della Puglia, da un paesino chiamato San Paolo Civitate, in provincia di Foggia.

Questa pianta era destinata all'orto abusivo o alla mia presuntuosa, nonché fallimentare, attività di Guerrilla Gardening. Alla fine, senza molta convinzione, ho deciso di tenerla su uno dei miei balconi, tanto da rinvasarla in un vaso di soli 33 cm di diametro, anche se ben profondo. L'intenzione era di curare un solo frutto per fare semi freschi e poi estirpare la pianta. Ma è successo qualcosa di bello che mi ha fatto cambiare idea: la pianta si è riempita dappertutto di tanti frutticini che stanno andando quasi tutti a maturazione. Di solito c'è un'alta percentuale di frutti abortiti nelle piante di carosello, ma il mio Polisello mi ha sorpreso da questo punto di vista. 

Per fare i semi dovrò aspettare l'ultimo frutto.

I WOULD NEVER HAVE THOUGHT IT!

Has it ever happened to you to get full satisfaction from a plant you'd never have thought of? It's occurring to me with one of the less known carosello strains: the Carosello Polisello. It's native to San Paolo Civitate, Foggia District, North Puglia.

This vine was designated to the unauthorized garden or my disastrous and presumptuous activity of Guerrilla Gardening. At the end, without much belief, I decided to keep it on one of my balconies in an only 33 cm diameter pot, but quite deep. I had a mind to cultivate only the first fruit to save seeds for next year and extirpate the vine after harvesting it. But something beautiful happened and I changed my mind: the Carosello Polisello vine soon filled all over with so many small fruits which are going ripe. Most of them. There's usually a high rate of aborted fruits on the carosello vines, but my Polisello has surprised me from this point of view. 

I'll have to wait for the last fruit to save seeds.
